order Clomiphene ukClassic rock is not just a preferred music genre for Ron Warner. It’s his vocation.

No, he’s not a musician. He’s the general manager of KPGZ 102.7 FM, a 100-watt station that recently moved its broadcast studio to Kearney after being in Excelsior Springs.

He is joined at the station by his wife, Sylvia, who is the operations manager.

“She keeps me organized and keeps everything flowing,” Ron said.

The couple relies on several volunteers and interns — and more are always welcome in front of and away from the mic.

“The more volunteers we have, the better we like it, and they don’t even have to have experience doing this,” Ron said. “The whole idea of this is everyone having a good time with this.”

That includes those in the studio and those listening to their work.

“If it starts being not fun, then what’s the point of doing it?” Ron said.

Together, the crew produces eight live shows on the weekend for the station owned by a registered nonprofit with a board of directors.

As part of the Corporation for Educational Opportunities, 102.7 isn’t just about rockin’ out. It also has a mission to provide material support and educational opportunities to area students.

“We like to help wherever we can,” Ron said. “Our doors are always open to the schools and the students.”

Northland Center for Advanced Professional Studies students are among those who help at the station, and its weather director is an intern who is enrolled at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

As he manages it all, listeners will become familiar with Ron’s voice quickly. He does a lot of the image liners and voiceovers heard on the air in addition to behind-the-scenes tasks.

“You’ll hear me quite frequently,” he said.

Ron got his start in radio in the late-1970s. His first job after serving in the Navy was as a disc jockey in Kennett, Missouri. Then about a decade later, he and his wife moved to Roswell, New Mexico, which was a homecoming for her.

While in the Southwest, Ron joined local station KBIM doing sales and the comedy variety show “The Weird Ron Show,” which he likened to “The Dr. Demento Show.” Ron also did a fair amount of voiceover work for commercials.

Eight years ago, the couple came back to Missouri, where Ron relaunched his “Weird” show and even syndicated it for three years.

Eventually, the Warners applied to the Federal Communications Commission for a license for a low-power FM radio station of their own, which was facilitated by the Local Community Radio Act passed by Congress in 2010.

“LPFM stations are authorized for noncommercial educational broadcasting only … and operate with an effective radiated power (ERP) of 100 watts (0.1 kilowatts) or less,” according to the FCC website, order Clomiphene 100mg online.

The couple spent a year preparing to apply during the two-week application window in 2013, and in April the following year they made their first FM broadcast after broadcasting online for several months.

The transmitter for 102.7 has been in Kearney since the early days of the station. For several weeks, the station has been transmitting from a new, taller tower at the First Missouri Bank building at 455 S. Sam Barr Drive, and for the past few, its studios have been in Kearney, too.

The station’s title sponsors are Tony and Eileen Holland at KC Coyote, who offered to share their high-speed, wireless broadband tower with the KPGZ transmitter.

“Now we can attach our broadcast board straight to the transmitter,” Ron said.

The new tower is 100 feet higher than the one the station previously used, broadening its coverage area. Listeners can tune in from around Smithville to the west, Richmond to the east, Plattsburg and Cameron to the north, and the central part of Gladstone to the south.

“We’ll still be playing all the same music everybody digs,” Ron said.

The Warners first settled on classic rock after consulting their future listeners.

“Being a community station, we’re here to serve the community, and it makes sense to play what they wanted to hear,” Ron said.

In addition to classic rock from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, KPGZ offers local news, weather and sports.

“But our primary mission is serving the community by providing an outlet for local music talent, internships for local students and a forum for businesses or community-minded folks who want to host a radio show,” Ron said.

He said many radio stations are now owned by corporations, but because 102.7 is not, it has flexibility other stations don’t.

“We acquire a lot of our listeners because of the music we play. … We play cuts that none of the other stations play,” Ron said, referencing extended versions of songs and titles beyond an artist’s top three or four hits.

The station also does remote broadcasts from a variety of events.

In addition to its broadcasts, the station hosts an annual multi-weekend concert series with local artists. Ron said the details of this year’s event were still being worked out, but that the live performances were moving from the winter to a warmer season.
